Should councillors seeking re-election give themselves a hefty pay raise to take effect next term, a few months before the election? I don’t think it is either appropriate or ethical at this time. But council did so, after hiring a second consultant to advise them, seven months after they hired a previous consultant to do the same.
Should mayoral candidates on council be voting for both a mayor’s pay raise and to make the mayor’s position full-time, less than three months before the municipal election? Is it ethical to vote for a change that will clearly affect their income and role if elected? Again, I don’t think it is either appropriate or ethical at this time.
